Dodge City girl selling dog snacks to build homes for homeless

For Christmas 2015, Lauren Seachris decided to make bags for the homeless. It has been her intention to take care of those who may be hurting or who have less than she does. We handed out the bags as a family and also supplied our extended family with bags so they could do the same as they came across someone in need.

Fast forward to March 2016. Lauren was introduced to King’s Ransom and she immediately wanted to build homes for the poor in Nicaragua. She and her dad brainstormed ideas and she decided to start her own dog biscuit business, Lauren’s Treat, with proceeds benefiting those less fortunate. She set up a facebook page and email for correspondence and began through word of mouth. From June through October, she has also had a booth at the Farmer’s Market in Dodge City as well as the Flea Market. She will also have a booth at the Knights of Columbus craft show in November.

Lauren is eleven years old and she is the daughter of Ryan and Amy Seachris. She has 2 brothers; Landon is 7 and Dawson is 5 and all three are homeschooled. In addition to her activities with King’s Ransom, she enjoys sewing and playing with her two dogs.

Return dog biscuit clients have been a huge part of her business as well as those who have generously donated directly to her King’s Ransom page. In March, Lauren set a goal to build 5 homes which would be $26,000. Her first home, in the amount of $5,200 was raised by the end of October 2016.

The biscuits are sold by the bag: 1 bag for $8, 2 bags for $15 or three bags for $20. She offers 4 options of peanut butter, flavor of the month and special seasonal treats (extra large size) 1 treat $2, 2 treats for $3 or 3 treats for $5.

Lauren states that she has a sponsor which provides all the needed materials and supplies so 100% of your donation goes straight to building the homes. By supporting Lauren’s Treat dog biscuits, you support her in building her next home.

Lauren says, “Together we CAN transform these poverty stricken villages into safe, thriving communities. Your donation will take these families…these starving children...out of poverty and give them HOPE!”

Each double-unit concrete block home is equipped with two bedrooms, a living room, a personal sanitation unit, a stove and a connection for potable water.

Founded in 2009, King’s Ransom Foundation is a USA non-profit 501©(3) public charity dedicated to upholding the cause of the widow, the orphan, the poor and the needy. They seek to reflect the Character of God through direct humanitarian activities. Every person is precious to God and He has a destiny and a plan for each of us, but poverty hinders many from fulfilling that destiny. By removing their barriers, they free people to pursue the life God has called them to live.

Through the generous gifts of people from all over the globe, King’s Ransom provides:

Food, housing and safe water to the poorest of the world’s poor.

Shelter for abused women and children.

A way out for those trapped in slavery and the sex trades.

Relief for disaster victims.

Care for widows and orphans around the world.

The operational expenses are completely funded by the gifts of a generous private corporation, so 100% of donor giving goes directly to the missions.

The foundation and its volunteer board members hare common values for responsible stewardship, financial accountability, openness and disclosure. With a spirit of excellence, they are committed to honor and respect all, especially those in need. Executive Director Cindy McFaden explains, “We put every organization through a very stringent vetting and interview process to determine if they qualify for funds.”

They partner with charitable missions in the local community, the United States, Nicaragua, India, Belize, Haiti, Israel, Africa, Thailand and Mexico and the list keeps growing.
